The Firearm Blog had information about the AR57 earlier in the year, here is an update.  This AR57 is fully suppressed:

Sneak peek of intergrally suppressed AR57

The AR Five Seven is a one piece 5.7×28mm upper that attaches to a lower and uses the 50 round P90 . 57 Center posted a few photos of their new integrally suppressed AR57 model:

How cool is that!

An integral encompasses the barrel which is ported at various strategic points to bleed off gas. The advantage is that the does not extend much further than the muzzle, if at all, and its weight is distributed along the barrel instead of in front of the muzzle.

Here is a great post from Of Arms and the Law

Would massacres in Mumbai have been lessened if Indians were armed?

Instapundit asks the question. I’d agree there was a good chance casualties would have been reduced. Rush into a crowded room shooting, and there’s a big difference if the attacker has to worry about getting shot in the back. Not to mention about being perforated while he is changing .

And Instapundit reports that there were only ten terrorists. I really wouldn’t give ten men attacking a few thousand Tucsonans much of a chance. About 2% of Pima County has a CCW permit; others carry openly or have one in their car (you don’t need a permit to have a holstered gun in the glove compartment). So an attack on 2,000 people means an attack on *at least* forty who have a gun on them, and more who will have one available in seconds. A fair number of whom will be behind the attackers’ backs.

The NSSF has put together a great fact sheet on Assault Weapons.  The fact sheet debunks many of the liberal myths that have been floating around since the 1990s.

Attention liberals…find a friend that can read this to you.  You may learn something.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION ON SO-CALLED ‘ASSAULT WEAPONS’

What has erroneously been termed an “assault weapon” is a semi-automatic firearm that fires just one bullet with each pull of the trigger (versus a fully automatic firearm — -

AR-15 (not an assult weapon)

(not an assult weapon)

- which continues to shoot until the trigger is released). Specifically, legislation has incorrectly defined an “assault weapon” as a semi-automatic firearm that can accept a detachable magazine and has two or more of the following cosmetic features (it is these cosmetic features that distinguish the firearm from other “non-assault weapons.”):

• A folding or telescoping stock
• A grip
• A bayonet mount
• A flash , or threads to attach one
• A grenade launcher

None of these features figure into the criminal misuse of , regardless of their appearance.

SEPARATING FACT FROM FICTION

There is a tremendous amount of misinformation surrounding the issue of so-called “assault weapons.” Below are several of the more misleading allegations related to these followed by corresponding statements of fact:

Claim: A commercially-sold “assault weapon” is a and has no place in civilian hands.

Fact: A so-called “assault weapon” is NOT a or automatic firearm. Automatic were severely restricted from civilian ownership under the 1934 . A so-called “assault weapon” is functionally no different than any other “legal” firearm. These guns fire in the same manner as any other semi-automatic firearm (one shot per trigger pull – no spray firing), they shoot the same ammunition as other guns of the same and are no more powerful. What differentiates a so-called “assault weapon” from other guns is cosmetic; for example, the type of stock on the gun, which makes the conventionally operating firearm look more like a firearm.

The gun-ban lobby understands that the confusion over what is and what is not an “assault weapon” only benefits them. Consider this statement from Josh Sugarmann of the Violence Policy Center:

“The public’s confusion over fully-automatic machine guns versus semi-automatic assault weapons — anything that looks like a is presumed to be a — can only increase the chance of public support for restrictions on these weapons.”

Claim: Semi-automatic “assault weapons” are high-powered guns that are meant for war.

Fact: So-called “Assault weapons” are more often than not less powerful than other hunting rifles. The term “assault weapon” was conjured up by anti-gun legislators to scare voters into thinking these are something out of a horror movie. These guns are used for many activities. In fact, the Colt and M1A, both labeled “assault weapons,” are the rifles most often used for marksmanship competitions in the . And their cartridges are standard hunting calibers, useful for game up to and including deer.

Claim: The 1994 “” helped to reduce violent crime.

Fact: A recent comprehensive study by the Centers for Disease Control — hardly a pro-gun entity — looked at the full panoply of gun control measures — including the “” — and concluded that none could be proven to reduce crime. Homicide statistics demonstrate that the miniscule use of so-called “assault weapons” in crime (less than 1 percent) continued to decrease after the ten-year ban expired in 2004 and their manufacturing and sales resumed.

Another study, commissioned by , found “the banned weapons and were never used in more than a modest fraction of all gun murders.”

The report also noted that so-called “assault weapons” were “rarely used in gun crimes even before the ban.”

Conclusion:

Crime control legislation should be based upon solid facts, not emotions, cosmetics or appearance. Semi-automatic are now the most popular type of firearm in America and are used for a wide variety of legitimate sporting purposes, including hunting, small game control, target shooting and personal defense. They should not be banned.

My appologies to Cowtown Cop… that was probably me the cleaned out the stock of magzines.   I like many gun owning Americans lived through the last AWB debaucle.  I have stocked up on plenty over the last few years, and increased that stock recently.  Heck, If I had invested my 401K money in , and AK47 , instead of the market, I could probably retire to a desert island in a few years from the sale proceeds.

If you can not find any Pmags there are plenty of other great suppliers… you may want to check 44mag.com or C-Products

Here is a great post from Cowtown Cop

Thank You for Panic Buying…

P-Mag

I would like to thank all of you who have gone out and taken the time and money to purchase a “assault ” and a whole bunch of . I’m not kidding, I really appreciate it. If a whole lot of folks buy them now it means that there will continue to be a good supply of these things in circulation even if we get another stinky “” that will save us all from those evil flash hiders and grip stocks. How many times have I seen helpless folks victimized by one of those horrible that hold more than ten rounds? Well never, but that’s beside the point.

I went and bought me some Magpul Pmags for my AR because despite what the idiots say about restricting hi cap mags for enforcement only, it doesn’t really work out that way. Yes, I could buy hi cap mags while we had the last ban but they were stinking expensive and hard to get. So I stocked up while they are still pretty cheap and easy to buy.
They won’t be cheap or easy to find for very long though so I suggest you getcha some before they are all gone. I went back to the store where I bought mine four days after I bought them. The shelf was empty and the store owner told me that he can’t get any more from the for a long time. Someone came in and bought the entire stock of these .
Good for them. These are really good sturdy mags that store well fully loaded and can take a beating. I would highly recommend them to anyone who has a new AR type .

Here is a great post from The Firearm Blog describing the BW15.

BW15 will come in 6.8mm and 7.62×39mm

Lee, a armorer, emailed me some info on the BW15:

1.Yes we do offer the BW15 in more than just 5.56mm. As of now we are making them in 6.8mm and 7.62×39mm as well. The BW15 lower receivers are stamped Multi-cal.190Px-Blackwater Logo 2007.Svg-1

2.We are using out own receivers and each weapon is a matched upper and Lower receiver. All of the serial numbers begin BW.

3. As far the weapons shooting MOA, we use only the best barrels and the Armorer that builds the weapons also test fires it. I do believe that if we say that it will shoot MOA it will. But on the other hand what if the customer can’t shoot that well. Are we to take the weapon back? In case you did not know, everyone is an expert when to shooting.

4. Barrel lengths start at 16″. You can request a 14.5 with a pinned and permanently affixed flash hider to make total length overall 16″. We can have a custom barrel made to your specs (will take extra time POR). However if a customer wants a 18″- 26″ barrel we can accommodate.

5. All weapons have standard anodized finish. We are not doing any coatings at this time.

6. All weapons are shipped with 2 30 round and a lock.
