Here is a great post from Of Arms and the Law

Must be the week for 2A lawsuits

A ways back, Bob Barr filed suit for a Georgia FFL (Adventure Outdoor Sports) targeted by Mayor Bloomberg’s “stings,” alleging that Bloomberg had slandered the owner. Bloomberg’s guys got it removed to Federal court, and argued NY , giving public officials a wide privilege against defamation suits, should apply. (BTW, those are two different issues. A Georgia court, or its federal district court, may still apply under certain conditions). The federal district court ruled that did not apply, and Bloomberg appealed.

Today the 11th Circuit US Circuit Court of Appeals handed Bloomberg his mayorial hindquarters. The news report is confusing, but apparently the appeals court ordered that the US district court should return the lawsuit to State court.

and DEC Chairman Set to Close the Reynolds Game Farm!

David Paterson (D) and State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Chairman Pete Grannis bamboozle sportsmen and taxpayers: Claiming across-the-board spending cuts, the DEC has decided to shutdown the Reynolds Game Farm, a last-of-its-kind preserve in where pheasants have been bred and released for hunting since 1927.

The folks from accountability are at it again this year.  Although this piece of keeps dying every time it is proposed, they are trying again. There tag line of saving lives one bullet at a time is comical at best.  The system has many conceptual problems, including increasing the manufacturing cost of , as well as local, state and federal agency administrative cost.  The thought that one could track a criminal through a registered bullet is a little far fetched.

What makes one think if criminals steal guns, and deface serial numbers on guns, they will not do the same for ?

From WND:

Group asks states to track citizens’ ammo
Organization claims it is ’saving lives 1 bullet at a time’

to trace is pending in several states, and many gun owners are concerned that it is just another attempt by anti-gun groups to violate citizens’ Second Amendment rights. An organization known as Ammunition Accountability is pushing to make coding technology mandatory across the nation. Its website claims it is a group of “gun crime victims, industry representatives, law enforcement, public officials, public policy experts, and more” who are “saving lives one bullet at a time.”

If states pass the , manufacturers will be required to laser etch a serial number into the back of each bullet and the inside of cartridge casings, a patented process developed by Seattle, Wash., resident Russ Ford and his business partners, Steve Mace and John Knickerbocker.

According to Seattle Weekly, the men couldn’t find an to agree to stamp bullets, so they hired a lobbyist to push for state to require the laser coding. They launched the Accountability website and successfully introduced bills in the following 18 states: Alabama, Arizona, , Connecticut, Hawaii, , Indiana, Kentucky, , Mississippi, , New Jersey, , , Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee and .

“I did not think I would live long enough to see the day…” Many are saying this about the of Obama as the first quasi-black (Nigerian, Hawaiian, Indonesian, whatever) POTUS.  However, I am saying it about recent actions by the NY Judicial system.   I was amazed this week when I heard the NY Courts recognized the rights granted to individuals under the Heller decision, and gave back a permit to one of NY States citizens.  In Colaiacovo v. Dormer the State of New York had revoked a mans permit and /CCW permit because his distraught wife had committed suicide.  While it was gravely unfortunate that the mans wife had taken her own life, the pain was exacerbated by the State of New York in revoking the mans right to defend his home and workplace by stripping him of his

This last week the New York handed down the decision (citing Heller) that the State of New York can NOT strip a man of his right to defend himself and his home using .  This is a big blow to New York State, and is a “Smack Down” which is long overdue.  Hopefully the breakthroughs provided by Heller will continue to spread.

Here is some great observations from Snowflakes in Hell.  I know this only applies to NY but it could easily be carried nationwide as the slow churning gun control liberals take over in an incremental fashion.

Bad Day for New York Gun Owners

It was a bad election day for New York gun owners.  Tom King says:

I expect to see the following proposed in both houses of state shortly after the start of the 2009 legislative session Smart Gun, expanded COBIS, Micro Stamping of shell casings, an expanded assault weapons ban, reduction of magazine capacity, mandatory storage/insurance and renewable licenses with very limited concealed carry. It is not a pretty scenario but it is not untenable.

Gun owners in New York State are going to need some help.  One thing I would encourage of New York activists is that it is possible to work within the Democratic Party.  We have some very anti-gun urban Democrats in Pennsylvania too, but we also have a lot of pro-gun Democrats, who are good on our issue.  Unfortunately, one of them is John Murtha, but on guns, Murtha has been on our side.  Sometimes you have to work with the political circumstances political fortunes stick you with.
