Here is a great post from A Keyboard and a .45. This was a blast from the past for me as I remember much talk of burying weapons and ammunition. I think the E-tools sold in record numbers between 1986 and 1996.
Long Term Underground Firearm and Ammo Storage
There is quite a bit of ‘net’ wisdom out there on the best way to prepare and store a firearm and ammunition for “just in case”. Most of this information is theoretical and should work out just fine, but in most cases the end results of these preparations have yet to be determined.
Back in the early 1990s the outlook for the nation in general and gun owners in particular seemed rather grim to many people. A few years earlier in 1986, Congress had banned civilians from owning newly manufactured machine guns. There was ever more strident talk of banning semi-automatic weapons or so called assault weapons. Many of us regarded a semi-automatic rifle as the foundation of a home defense battery. Many of us believed that more laws banning ever more types of guns were imminent. About that time I acquired a Ruger Ranch Rifle through a private sale. I decided to stash it away in a safe place just in case my worst fear was to materialize, another gun ban.
Actor’s $100K donation to benefit Phoenix officers
Gift expected to buy 50 semi-automatic rifles for Phoenix officers
by Michael Ferraresi - Dec. 23, 2008 12:00 AM
An unexpected donation from actor David Spade is expected to provide Phoenix police with enough money to buy an additional 50 semi-automatic rifles for patrol officers in 2009.
The $100,000 gift announced Monday means as many as 300 officers could soon be armed with Bushmaster AR-15s, even in light of recent debates between police and union officials about the availability of the high-powered weapons during the city’s ongoing budget strife.
Advocates said the need to arm more patrol officers with rifles has only grown since union officials proposed in 2006 that officers should be allowed to buy their rifles if the city is unable to provide them. Police leaders met recently on the issue but have yet to expand the self-purchase policy beyond handguns and shotguns. Spade, a Scottsdale Saguaro High School graduate, provided the money to a non-profit police foundation after seeing a jarring television news report about gun violence. Police leaders said Spade told them he was inspired to help keep the community safe.
The comic-turned-movie star provided the check to Phoenix Police Chief Jack Harris early Monday but did not appear at the press conference. The Phoenix Police Foundation expects to use the $100,000 on rifles.
Ammo Ban And Registration Proposal Getting Fresh Look
Friday, December 12, 2008
Happy Holidays: Now dispose of all of your ammunition! Every last round! From now on, you will be able to buy only overpriced ammunition that will be registered to you in a government database.
Not yet–at least for now. A small company, Ammunition Accountability–which wants to help anti-gunners price and regulate the Second Amendment out of existence, profit at the expense of our rights, or both–has found radical anti-gun legislators in 18 states willing to introduce bills pushing such nonsense.
But few anti-gun proposals are so overtly aimed at destroying the Right to Keep and Bear Arms. As we began noting on http://www.nraila.org/in January, so-called “encoded ammunition” or “serialized ammunition” bills would require ammunition manufacturers to engrave a serial number on the base of the bullet and the inside of the cartridge casing of each round of ammunition for popular sporting caliber center-fire rifles, all center-fire pistols, all .22 rimfire rifles and pistols, and all 12 gauge shotguns. In all but one of the bills, people would be required to forfeit all personally owned non-”encoded” ammunition. After a certain date, it would be illegal to possess non-”encoded” ammunition. Reloading would be rendered illegal.
This video was posted by the NSSF a few months ago, but is great information for the general public. This video explains the differences between Assault Weapons, Assault Rifles, Machine Guns, Semi Automatics, and so forth. It is very well done, from a respected source.
Time left until we can affect change on the U.S. Congress
The liberal Congress was elected 2 months and 1 day ago. Our opportunity to vote again occurs in 1 year, 9 months, and 28 days.
We are currently 8.6% complete with the reign of the Democrats
Time Until we can enact change in the U.S. Presidency
The ignorant masses elected an inexperienced quasi-socialist president 2 months and 1 day ago. We have to guard our democratic freedoms 3 years, 10 months, and 1 day until we can elect someone better. We are currently 4.3% complete.
