AACEI An acceptance is:
  1. The formal process of accepting delivery of a product or a deliverable.
  2. The act of taking custody based on satisfactory verification.
  3. The act of an authorized representative, for itself or as agent for another, assumes ownership of existing identified supplies tendered or approves specific services rendered as partial or complete performance of the contract. (6/07)[1]

The acceptance can be a partial or final acceptance of the product, service or result. In either case the acceptance is based on the predetermined acceptance criteria.

AACEI Acceptance, Final (partial)—The formal action by the owner accepting the work (or a specified part thereof), following written notice from the engineer that the work (or specified part thereof) has been completed and is acceptable subject to the provisions of the contract regarding acceptance. (11/90)[1]
